Industrial Robot Accuracy Improvement

We developed an application that aims to drastically increase the accuracy of industrial robots. Such tool is based on an algorithm that takes two main data as inputs: the actual position of the robot end effector and the ideal trajectory that the user wants the robot to follow. The precise end effector position is obtained thanks to a laser tracker, which continuously acquires position data and send them to the PC/PLC. User-defined trajectory can be provided in several ways, taking advantage of our easy and intuitive user interface. The algorithm elaborates the data and sends a proper setpoint to the robot, whose position is corrected in real time during the path execution.

Such solution allows to increase the robot accuracy up to one order of magnitude. Moreover, it is particularly suitable for extended robot applications, where accuracy improvements can be even higher.

    Traditional Approach

Nowadays, industrial robots are mostly used in processes such as assembly, handling, machining, finishing, painting, etc. Their spread is due to their versatility of use, in addition to their good repeatability and adequate accuracy.

However, their standard accuracy happens to be not sufficient for all applications.

    Our Approach

We introduced a highly accurated sensor (laser tracker) in the robot position feedback loop to reach much more elevated accuracy levels. Thanks to our application, standard industrial robots can be implemented in industrial sectors where there are critical issues or where specific standards about accuracy need to be respected, such as in the aerospace industry. The solution effectively meets the requirements of precision and reliability, ensuring adequate process control.

The easy-to-use interface will help you to exploit your robot’s full potential. It allows to easily import and export data about the calibration of the reference frames and robot paths. The robot can be jogged through the application itself, avoiding the use of the teach pendant. Moreover, you will be able to plot the robot paths, both corrected and not, so that to track your activities and create a data history.

Moreover, we have the opportunity to realize custom modifications based on the specific application.
